Panchavati is a prominent, sacred neighborhood in Nashik, Maharashtra, situated on the northern banks of the Godavari River. Rooted in the Ramayana, it is famously believed to be the area where Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana spent a large portion of their 14-year exile.
Getting There: It is located about 8-10 km from the Nashik Road Railway Station. Local auto-rickshaws, cabs, and local buses easily connect the railway station to the ghats and temples of Panchavati. Best Time to Visit: The winter months (October to March) offer the most pleasant weather for temple hopping and walking along the riverbanks. Early mornings and late evenings are ideal to avoid crowds and afternoon heat. Local Customs: Because this is a deeply revered pilgrimage site, dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered) and prepare to remove your footwear at the entrances of the temples.
