About SVAS

Smart Visitor Assistance System

A technology-driven safety and navigation platform built for Kumbh Mela 2025 pilgrims

What is SVAS?

The Smart Visitor Assistance System (SVAS) is a QR-based family registration and emergency management platform developed specifically for Kumbh Mela 2025 at Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. With crores of devotees attending the Mela, SVAS provides a digital safety net that connects families, volunteers, and emergency responders instantly.

Every registered family receives unique QR wristbands for each member. A single scan reveals complete family information, medical details, emergency contacts, nearby ghats, navigation routes, and accommodation — even without an internet connection.

Why Was SVAS Built?

Kumbh Mela is the world's largest human gathering, attracting 40–50 crore visitors over its duration. Crowd sizes at peak bathing dates (Shahi Snan) can exceed 2–3 crore on a single day. In such an environment, families get separated, medical emergencies happen, and elderly pilgrims lose their way.

SVAS was built to solve this — a simple QR wristband that any volunteer, police officer, or medical team can scan to instantly know who this person is, who their family is, and how to contact them.

Our Mission

To ensure every pilgrim at Kumbh Mela 2025 can be identified, located, and assisted in seconds — regardless of language, literacy, or network connectivity.

Our Approach

Technology that works for everyone — a simple QR code that requires no app, no smartphone, no login. Just scan and get instant information.

Offline First

Designed to work on 2G networks and fully offline via Service Worker caching. Because connectivity at the Mela is unpredictable.

Privacy & Safety

Only family members and emergency responders need this info. QR scan pages are indexed to codes only — no personal search possible.

Key Capabilities

SVAS Phase 1 includes: family registration with multi-member support, unique QR code generation per member, print-ready wristband layouts, real-time scan logging, emergency contact display, ghat and route navigation with Google Maps integration, hotel listings, and a complete admin panel for Mela authorities.

Technology

Built on PHP 7+ with CodeIgniter 3 framework, MySQL database with partitioned tables for high-volume scan logging, Redis caching for sub-millisecond response times, and a Progressive Web App Service Worker for offline capability. The system is designed to handle 1 lakh+ simultaneous users with less than 3 database queries per scan on warm cache.
